Dateline July 2012 (our apologies this one slipped through the net!)
In July Richard Peirce was contacted by lobster fisherman Jody McNeil who had found what he thought was a great white shark tooth embedded in the mesh of one of his lobster kreels.
McNeil's pots had been deployed in 80 fathoms on a silty seabed to the west of Gairloch in N.W. Scotland. Richard was able to confirm that the tooth was from a great white, and experts later also confirmed it was largely fosilised and about 10,000 years old.
They were once in our waters, do they still visit? That's the question to which there is no proven answer one way or the other.............yet.
